Step 2;

Now create an Extrude NURBS object and drag your text object into it.

Then go to the Caps tab a change Type to Quadrangles. Check the Regular Grid box and change the width to 3m.

We want to add as many subdivisions as possible to our text object. This way when we add the explosion effect it will create more detail and a better image.

Step 3;

Create an Explosion FX and group it with Extrude Nurbs object by selecting both and right clicking on them and selecting Group Objects.

There are a lot of options in the Explosion FX object. I'll share the settings I used for my piece, but feel free to adjust the settings to your liking.

Step 4;

Alright now create a Plane object and put it behind the text. After that create a light and turn on Soft Shadows. Feel free to light the scene the way you like.

Then create and apply new material to the plane and text objects.

Step 5;

Create a Curves adjustment layer and use that to add more contrast to your image.

To the right you'll see the S-Curve I used for my image.

Step 6;

Now add a Gradient Map adjustment layer and double click on it to adjust the gradient's color. You can find some great color schemes to use for your gradient at Adobe's Kuler site. When you're done drop the opacity down to 60%.

Step 7;

Now let's add a vignette to the image, create a new layer and fill it completely black.

Next create an Image Mask for the black solid and option-click on it to load it on screen. Use the radial gradient tool to create a mask removing the center of the black solid.

Step 8;

Merge the layers together and then duplicate the layer.
